TAKE 3…OUR HISTORY Lucas Magnozzi started taking guitar lessons with guitarist and musical mentor  Bill Fowkes in 2022. Lucas was 13 and the guitar lessons, over time, turned into jam sessions. Lucas went from being Bill&#39;s guitar student to Bill&#39;s musical partner and future bandmate.After 1 year of lessons and a lot of hard work, Lucas was ready for his first gig. In April, 2024 Lucas and Bill performed an acoustic set at a local art gallery. It was a hit! They continued to play gigs at farmers markets, graduation parties, birthday parties, and barbecues.In mid 2024, Lucas met Natalia Rahim at  East End Arts, a music and arts program sponsored by The East End Arts Council. There, Natalia and Lucas were members of two different bands. Lucas’ band had just won first place at the Southampton Battle of the Bands and Natalia’s band was runner-up.Natalia, Bill and Lucas started rehearsing and TAKE 3 was formed. Natalia became an immediate addition, adding an angelic and wide ranging voice to the duo of Bill and Lucas. The band started performing at private parties, and music store events on the East End of Long Island.TAKE 3 blends the guitar skills of 16 year old Lucas Magnozzi with the musicianship and musical experience of guitarist Bill Fowkes and the smooth and versatile voice of Natalia Rahim. TAKE 3 plays the songs that span many decades of rock n roll for a musical nite to remember.The magic behind TAKE 3 is that the band reinterprets rock n roll songs that you have heard countless times. The arrangements are for two acoustic guitars and a female voice. The songs incorporate bass lines, jazz chords, lead playing and innovative vocals and harmonies. The net effect is that the interplay between the guitars and vocals is very prominent. The three musician format makes the songs transparent, light and musical….all the while still keeping the groove. Because if it doesn’t groove, they don’t play it!

Cale -- blended by Parsons in smoky barrooms from Alabama to the Catskills. The result is a sonic tapestry woven from a Southern upbringing, a respect for karma, and an unyielding conviction that it&#39;s never too late. This will be Shawn and his band&#39;s debut at The Talkhouse.

Born and raised on the beautiful island of Anguilla, Omari Banks found his musical calling at a young age when he first took the stage in Milan, Italy to sing alongside his father Bankie Banx . The Dog Watchers formed in 2015 from the remnants of various east end musical projects. The band consists entirely of local musicians from around East Hampton and Sag Harbor. Focusing on a broad range of covers from the golden age of the 60&#39;s &amp; 70&#39;s, as well newer material. The goal is to surprise and entertain with songs you know &amp; love, ones you may have not heard in a while along with ones that may be new to you. The band members are Michael Rusinsky on Lead Vocals and Guitar, Anthony Liberatore on Vocals and Guitar, Toby VanKeuren on Drums and Bob Charney on Bass. There were frequently dogs present in the studio during rehearsals and that&#39;s how the band got it&#39;s name. Repertoire includes songs from The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Tom Petty, The Grateful Dead, Van Morrison, Springsteen, The Decemberists, Steve Earle, The Band and many more. The band has played various venues all over the east end including The Stephen Talkhouse, Guild Hall as well as numerous private parties and benefits.

It feels good to be right. We crave the satisfaction, the ease. But what about when you&#39;re not so sure? When you&#39;re unsteady, angry, swayable, and doing your damned best anyway?There&#39;s something refreshingly humane about that uncertainty; about having the guts to try, even if you might be wrong. This is the central tenant of Humbird&#39;s third full-length album, Right On, a radical ethos in this soap-box age, and an effort worth turning up the amps for, resulting in the project&#39;s most electric, playful, mettled record yet.Siri Undlin (the songwriter behind the moniker) and her collaborators tracked live and to tape over the course of two muggy weeks in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. For a collection of songs unafraid of ambiguity, it&#39;s music that bares its teeth. Anger and dismay sizzle in response to current events. Heartbreak feels like sandpaper, while wildflowers bob and sway in an ever-expanding universe.Produced by Shane Leonard and featuring regular contributors Pat Keen (bass, synth, percussion) and Pete Quirsfeld (drums and percussion), the majority of the songs showcase the locked-in rock trio, a progression from the contemplative folk musings of Undlin&#39;s previous releases. Even so, Right On incorporates friendly winks to the more whimsical, soundscape-y improvisations that audiences have come to expect from a Humbird performance – electrified, gritty, Midwest Americana with a little magic fairy dust thrown in.&#34;Right On,&#34; the title track and first song of the album, opens the record with a tone of resigned tenacity. &#39;I&#39;m not mad, but I should be / since true love proved unlucky / I cast the dye, I stained my hands / on wrongful judgments and half-baked plans.&#39; As the song moves through time and space, &#34;being wrong&#34; feels less and less like a failure, and instead transforms into guiding wisdom. The warm tremolo of the guitar maps along the grooves of the rhythm section, creating an atmosphere of inviting imperfection, a clever catalyst for the chorus&#39; simple melody to launch and land right in the tender part of your sternum.Other notable tracks include &#34;Child Of Violence,&#34; complete with psych-rock phaser pedals, which explores the legacy and impact of white supremacy in middle America; &#34;Cornfields and Roadkill&#34; focuses in on land stolen for profit, and old-growth forests traded for mono-crops in a sonic landscape reminiscent of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. &#34;Song For The Seeds&#34; is a slow-burning synth number, imploring the listener to tear up their lawn. It wields a refrain that will germinate in your mind – a proper earworm.Through observation and deft questioning, the lyrics land less like a political agenda and more like a hard conversation with a friend. All the while, you can hear the summertime pace where the recording took place, and the steady confidence of songs that have already traveled many miles on the road.And those miles – they&#39;re hard-earned. For Undlin, growing up steeped in church choirs and traditional Irish ensembles eventually led to conducting extensive folklore and musical research around the world as a Watson Fellow. That work inspired years of DIY touring around North America, including performing around the twin cities one backyard at a time during the pandemic. Undlin continues to expand and experiment as a writer and bandleader in a way that is fluid with each season, and oddly suited for this particular moment. Following the surprise success of the self-released debut album Pharmakon and the pensive reflections of 2021&#39;s Still Life, Right On is the next iteration in her process of witnessing the world in all its complexity and responding with candid consideration.For loyal fans and new listeners alike, Right On is a mischievously kind offering: a whole heap of songs that are unafraid to bask in the perfectly ordinary and also excruciating possibility that sometimes we&#39;re right, often we&#39;re wrong, but no matter what, music can meet us where we&#39;re at and keep us company along the way.Eliza Edens:On Eliza Edens’ sophomore album We’ll Become the Flowers, she seeks to understand what happens after the end. Whether grappling with heartache or a loved one&#39;s mortality, the Brooklyn-based songwriter reimagines endings not as finite events but as devotional experiences that give way to new beginnings. Edens takes inspiration from folk luminaries such as Nick Drake, Karen Dalton and Elizabeth Cotten, sowing her compositions with introspection born from her own grief. What emerges is a glowing collection of songs that serve as a map through tumult, toward hope. Edens sings and writes with an equally tender reverie as in her 2020 debut album Time Away From Time. But where We’ll Become the Flowers diverges, is in its narrative vulnerability. Each song is bursting: with sorrow, with anger, with the miracle of existence. “I wrote this album out of emotional necessity,” Edens says. &#34;I had just gone through a breakup. And around the same time, my mother was diagnosed with a neurodegenerative disease. I was spending a lot of my time trying to understand what it means to watch the hopeful person who raised me seem to slowly fade away before my eyes.” As the pandemic loomed, Edens turned to music: &#34;This project was a rope I used to pull myself out of misery, to view the despair I was feeling from a different angle. It was also my escape.” After a successful crowdfunding campaign, Edens recorded We’ll Become the Flowers during a two-week session in July 2021 in a Minneapolis attic. She worked with her trusted friends and collaborators – co-producer and bassist Pat Keen, audio engineer and guitarist Dexter Wolfe, and drummer Shane Leonard. Going into each session, they envisioned an atmosphere of experimentation which led them to reconceptualize many of Edens’ songs. “I Needed You,” for example, changed from “a glum breakup waltz” into “a song that’s feeling good about feeling bad,” Edens says, recalling Leonard’s words after he suggested changing the time signature. In We’ll Become the Flowers, Edens’ voice rings out sweet yet sorrowful; playful yet certain; hers is a voice capable of embodying emotion in all its complexity. When Edens asks, in the record’s opener, “How do I get there?” she stretches out the last word as if to emphasize its infinite possibilities. Yet Edens never remains in the abstract; instead, she takes us along on her emotional journey, speaking honestly, intimately, and specifically about her process: “I tried to start by weeding through the trauma in my bones,” she sings in the next verse of “How.” “To rearrange the memories / Forgive and not keep score.” In “Tom and Jerry,” Edens’ songwriting becomes more whimsical. “Oh it’s getting so hard to choose / And I’m chewing on all the alternate routes,” Edens sings, using a playful rhyme with alliterative echo. In “I Needed You,” Edens uses the repetition of her hook to convey how her feelings toward her former lover have shifted over time. The first time she sings, “I needed you,” her voice is steeped in nostalgia, romanticizing the lover’s “flannel shirt and calming words.” But the final time Edens sings, “I needed you,” her tone has shifted: she’s harsher, irreverent even – and as if in response to remembering how much she thought she needed them, she breaks into laughter. But Edens’ conviction as a songwriter comes across most clearly in “For the Song.” “And when the rage comes around,” she sings, “And every critic’s tearing up her ground / The truth becomes power.” In this last phrase, her voice is as direct and unwavering as her words. Creating We’ll Become the Flowers started as a way for Edens to plant her grief. What took root, however, is a series of offerings. These come in the form of scenes that are both familiar yet deeply personal to Edens: singing loudly on the highway, wandering a graveyard, dancing in the wilderness, watching her mother plant flowers, wishing to create her own shine, reminding herself that the only seed worth planting is hope. Through Edens’ words, we glimpse the possibility of change, of forgiveness, of acceptance and, in numinous spurts, joy. If we see Edens’ album as a conversation—between Edens and herself and between Edens and the listener—then the conversation opens with a question that she poses in the first song, “But how do I get there?” In the album’s denouement, “Julia,” Edens returns to this question, changed, and with a final offering: “The pen is in your hand,” she reminds us. “And the key is in your certainty.”

Back in the 90’s, the American reggae scene contained only a fraction of the bands it does today. The majority of touring acts came from either Jamaica or Africa, but there were a handful of American bands throughout the country playing local shows. In New York City, one of the most popular bands to frequent the fabled downtown venues like Wetlands, The Lion’s Den, CBGB and The Ritz was Skadanks.In 1986, Skadanks, was founded in New York City by Bassist Alex Valenti and Vocalist Rocker-T and were soon joined by Keyboardist Ricky Tepperberg, Drummer Cliff “Q-Liff” Simpson, Guitarist James Yarish and Percussionist Ras Num. Soon after, Yarish left the group and was replaced by JJ Sansaverino and the unfortunate passing of Ras Num left the band in its current lineup to today.In 1991 Skadanks were discovered by hip hop legend KRS-One who produced their 12” single “Whole World African”. Shortly after in 1994, they released their debut album “Give Thanks” composed of original music written by the band and produced by KRS-One, Sidney Mills and Skadanks. Ahead of its time, Give Thanks blended hip-hop and reggae, with undertones of a punk rock edge reflecting their NYC roots. Skandaks popularity quickly grew due to their originality, dynamic songwriting, high energy, and top ranking toasting. They continued to dominate the NYC club scene while touring Nationally and Internationally.

Ingram’s journey began in the city of Clarksdale, in Coahoma County, Mississippi, just 10 miles from the legendary crossroads of Highways 61 and 49. Born to a family of singers and musicians, he fell in love with music as a child, initially playing drums and then bass. At a young age, he got his first guitar and quickly soaked up music from Robert Johnson to Lightnin’ Hopkins, from B.B. King to Muddy Waters, from Jimi Hendrix to Prince. Through classes at the Delta Blues Museum, he learned the history of the blues and the basics of how to play them. Under the tutelage of Richard “Daddy Rich” Crisman and the late Bill “Howl-N-Madd” Perry, he not only developed his own playing sound and style, but also earned his “Kingfish” moniker, courtesy of Mr. Perry. Nora Conlon is a native of Springs who has been playing gigs on the east end of Long Island and in NYC since high school. She is a multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter, and is working on her craft as a producer and audio engineer at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at NYU, where she just finished her Junior year. With a sound inspired by artists such as Mitski, Jeff Buckley, Hozier, Madison Cunningham, and Big Thief, she has an eclectic style that melds folk and alternative rock with unique melodies influenced by tropes of Irish folk music. She likes to work with unexpected chord progressions and has a voice that has been compared to Joni Mitchell, Sarah McLachlan, and Sinead O’Connor. Nora released her first single “Cut It Out” on all streaming platforms in September from Berlin where she did her semester abroad. Over the past year, Nora has been prolifically writing new music and has been compiling her favorites in anticipation of putting out an EP soon! She’ll be spending her next semester continuing to hone her skills as an artist, songwriter, and engineer at the Clive Davis Institute.

Growing up in NYC she was surrounded by diverse music influences which would spark a deep passion for sound, leading into a DJing career. Her love for electronic music took off when she started exploring the nightlife scene, drawn to artists like Modern Machines and The Chainsmokers, whose festival performances inspired her to start DJing. Specializing in house and tech house, as well as bringing elements of drum &amp; bass and afro house to her sets, creating high-energy, immersive experiences. She has played throughout the Tampa Bay area (St.Pete), NYC, and Hamptons. With a deep love for curating unforgettable musical experiences, she brings a dynamic and versatile approach to every set keeping the crowd moving by blending genres seamlessly to create an atmosphere that resonates with the audience.

The Water Boys are a five-piece band made up of college students from the East End. Initially starting in 2019 as a group of high schoolers jamming in the basement of their drummer Dan Stark, they’ve grown to do shows across the East End and up-island. Their sound combines blues and jam band influences with the energy of 90s/00s punk and pop. At the heart of this is the lead guitar duo of Grayson Fox and Jack Oats who complement each other’s playing and drive them to new, sonic heights, while Vinny Palermo holds it down on bass. Concert-goers should be ready for a night of impassioned improvisations combined with uptempo sing-alongs. The band plays a mix of originals written by lead singer James Puccio and a variety of covers from artists like the Grateful Dead, John Mayer, Green Day, Taylor Swift and Sublime. Then came an avalanche of obstacles – personal and professional. Between a divorce, depression, and multiple relocations across the country, Sale was at his lowest. His music was ignored. Slowly, after reprioritizing his health, and his relationship with music itself, Sale began to piece together his newest William Wild project. The result is his forthcoming album, Touchy. Far and away the rawest recording in the Wild canon. It’s immediate, nearly tangible — his pain, grief, triumph, and joy, tactile against these gorgeous, homespun backdrops. To get to where he is now, though, Sale had to grow and shrink, to rise out of his own pain and focus on the delicate craft of capturing a perfect moment to tape.“Touchy represents a strong shift in my music,” Sale explains, noting how the writing process came from experimenting for an hour a day, willing himself to write when he was at his lowest. “I was listening to some crazy records by Sun Ra and improvisational noise music. Madden Novogratz is a Brooklyn based singer-songwriter putting her own twist on the NYC indie-rock sound. This marriage of genres combined with her magnetic persona and her terrific three piece band (with Mercer Meeks on the electric guitar, Ruby Chaffer on Bass and Jack Galardi on the drums) makes Novogratz a beacon of energy on stage. The name Paco Versailles was conceived while imagining a collaboration between their biggest influences, the legendary Spanish guitarist Paco De Lucia and French electronic artists Daft Punk and Air, both products of the Parisian suburb of Versailles.

For the first time in almost a decade, brothers Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith grace the cover of a Dawes record. It’s just the two of them this time, and as such, Oh Brother marks a distinctive new chapter for the California rock band — one that is both introspective and accessible, all while maintaining their beloved sense of sincerity. After the amicable departure of two bandmates last year, Taylor realized that the group’s natural evolution was nothing to hide from Dawes’ dedicated fans. He likens it to looking back on The Rolling Stones’ career — eras with Brian Jones versus Ronnie Wood — or Dire Straits’ lineup with and without brothers Mark and David Knopfler together, or The Cure’s fluctuating cast encircling Robert Smith. People change. Music evolves. But a band is still a band. “We’re not shying away from this information, because then it just seems cowardly or something,” Taylor says. “Rather than try to hide something, let’s celebrate it. Let’s call our record Oh Brother.” The title of Dawes’ ninth LP serves as a sort of double entendre too, an exasperated sigh acknowledging that change can still be challenging. “We’re gonna miss our dudes,” he says. “They’re still brothers.” Still, Oh Brother steers Dawes decidedly forward, honoring 15 years of Taylor and Griffin’s musical relationship, as well as the next era of their band. That spirit informed much of the album’s writing and recording, too. Each of the nine songs began with just Taylor on guitar and vocals and Griffin on drums. They initially tracked each one live together, before adding in additional instrumentation and collaborating with touring guitarist Trevor Menear in the studio. Additionally, Oh Brother is the first record the brothers have co-produced, working alongside longtime friend Mike Viola. Lyrically, the songs on Oh Brother encompass personal moments in their lives and larger ideas of what consistency and stability mean. “House Parties,” a musical sibling to 2015’s “All Your Favorite Bands,” came toward the end of the recording process for 2022’s Misadventures of Doomscroller. Shortly thereafter, “The Game” and “Surprise!” — a six-and-a-half-minute not-quite-center, centerpiece about life not going as expected — came as Taylor was settling into fatherhood. Elsewhere, “King of the Never-Wills” subtly addresses addiction and “Mister Los Angeles” serves as a sardonically satirical commentary on their hometown. At this point in the Goldsmiths’ career, Dawes has cemented itself as one of the most earnest, no-bullshit musical acts out there. To some degree, Taylor acquiesces, “I definitely choose to believe that definitive work can always be out in front of us instead of behind us, but it’s also a fact that we have established a personality.” They’re a band that can move seamlessly between folk rock, piano ballads, and sprawling jams while maintaining both an immediately recognizable sound and a freedom from expectations. Across its heartfelt songs — sometimes silly and sometimes serious, and all filled with sing-along choruses, deeply felt poetic lyrics, and sterling musicianship — Oh Brother highlights the band’s independence. Even as the Goldsmith brothers navigate new chapters in their personal and professional lives, they remain creative, ambitious, and inspired. “All you can really do is find out what are the most essential, truest, and idiosyncratic parts of yourself,” Taylor says. “And I like the fact that Griffin and I are kind of clinging to each other and holding on to each other more than we ever have. We’re grateful for each other in a new way. But we’ve also been through a lot. “It feels like we’re reborn in a way, and I mean that with so, so much love and gratitude to everyone we’ve ever played with before! This is what it means to be a lifer, to have iterations. It means having phases and chapters, and this is a very clear delineation as to the beginning of a new one. So Oh Brother feels like a ninth record, but it also feels like a first record.”

Paradise Pop. 10 feels a lot like finding an unpublished collection of short stories, scrawled hastily on the sides of airsickness bags and cocktail napkins, each one detailing the life of the unwitting passenger fortunate enough to be seated next to Christian Lee Hutson on their flight to Fort Worth.Anyone who has had the good fortune of falling in love with his earlier albums – 2020&#39;s Beginners and 2022&#39;s Quitters – knows that he is a keen observer of both himself and the world. Those albums earned the Californian singer-songwriter international attention, with Pitchfork noting that, &#34;Few lyricists can paint such clear portraits in such a small space; even fewer can set them so naturally to such long-breathed melodies,&#34; the UK&#39;s Guardian commending his work as &#34;small films in song, delicate and devastating, lingering long&#34; and No Depression heralding the arrival of &#34;an artist fully formed and wise beyond his years.&#34;From the first line of the first song on this new album – &#34;Tonight your name is Charlotte / In a play within a play&#34; – he reminds the listener that he is again weaving a web of autobiographical fiction. Every corner becomes kind of haunted in a way, kind of dragging you out of the present. That&#39;s the street that Mikey used to live on. I smoked a cigarette in that alley with Zoe. There&#39;s the rooftop we used to watch planes land from… y&#39;know? That&#39;s what LA became like for me, in the time after I made Quitters.&#34; He expounds, &#34;My last two records were really about exploring the past and mapping a little &#34;star tour&#34; of memories. Spending so much time revisiting all these emotional landmarks ended up giving me the feeling that I was missing my life. Like it was passing me while I was looking the other way. It felt really connected to the city. I would spend half my life in the car, just completely on autopilot, reliving my life from the beginning on repeat every day.&#34; Having relocated to New York City he says he feels a very different energy around him, one he describes as,&#34;You&#39;re alive right now. You&#39;re living your life today.&#34;Accompanied by Shahzad Ismaily&#39;s synths, Hutson&#39;s rich voice shines most clearly on the album&#39;s first single &#34;After Hours.&#34; He sings from a condominium in a corporatized Heaven to the woman he misses back on earth. &#34;Big budget productions of the lives of your loved ones / The good stuff is behind a paywall.&#34; Though the citizens of this Heaven are offered daily glimpses into life on Earth, our narrator prefers to imagine the minutiae of his love&#39;s routine while he waits for her to join him.One of the album&#39;s most sparse tracks, &#34;Flamingos,&#34; finds Hutson at the piano backed by longtime musical collaborator, and the album&#39;s co-producer, Phoebe Bridgers singing harmony. In this song we catch a glimpse of an anxious traveler, fresh off a flight from Tokyo, as he weaves and bobs through a crowd to reunite with a girlfriend. &#34;I&#39;m taking the red eye over the dateline / A sea of slow walkers all taking their sweet time.&#34; As he describes what he sees in her, we see him struggle to resist the urge to point out the differences between them, always reminding her of the score. &#34;Losers remember the people who won / Winners are never afraid to lose / You only think about falling in love / I only think about you.&#34; The listener is left with the question: If you love someone as they are, could you ever really lose?The album is somehow both literary and unpretentious, maybe best exhibited in the final track, &#34;Beauty School.&#34; Singer-songwriter Katy Kirby sings backing vocals on this surprising pop-punk tinged dose of poolside folk rock. &#34;In a mirror universe / Time is moving in reverse / I&#39;m gonna turn my life around / everything is different now.&#34; The lyrics to this chorus call back to that of another song from the record; &#34;Candyland.&#34; &#34;Dismantling my time machine / I&#39;ll probably put back together for the final scene.&#34;Again, Hutson gives the keen listener the impression that he is actively re-narrativizing his life. That he has wound up somewhere he never thought he would be and is trying to wrap his head around how not to ruin it.Paradise Pop. 10 takes its name from a real life &#34;town&#34; set deep in the woods of Parke County, Indiana, near where Hutson spent some of his childhood. There, just past the population sign, you&#39;ll find a row of five houses on one side of the road and a cemetery on the other. Hutson shares, &#34;When I was a kid, my dad used to take me up there, mostly because of the novelty of the town limits sign, but also because it was so quiet and peaceful. For years, he would say that if life ever got too crazy, we could go up there and start living our real lives; be the people we were always meant to be. It occurred to me while making this record, that most of our lives we spend waiting to &#34;be the people we were always meant to be.&#34; I wanted to name this record after that town because it always symbolized an arrival to me. It was the &#39;when&#39; that I looked forward to as a child. &#39;When&#39; it all made sense and I was finally who I was meant to be.&#34;Such a sleepy backwater could feel like a limbo of sorts, like time is frozen; leaving room for your mind to wander either backward into your regrets of the past or forward into the future, into the unknown. Peter Mayer, guitarist, vocalist and songwriter, has been with Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band for over three decades. Mayer also follows his own musical path with both national and international tours and has released 20 live and studio albums to date. Over his years in music he has been privileged to share the stage with many bright lights in the music industry including James Taylor, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Don Henley, Dave Matthews, and many others.Brendan Mayer, guitarist, vocalist and songwriter, has been building a following, laying his tracks in the music world. He released his first album, the “Getaway Car” EP, on Jimmy Buffett’s Mailboat Records, after touring a year with Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band in 2014. He has spent the last months working on his latest release, “Best at the Show,” which is due out this year. He performs regularly on his solo tours.Brendan and Peter joined forces in 2017 to record their debut album, “Long Story Short.” With both songwriters contributing to the list, this collection of twelve songs showcases the father and son’s unique musical directions that, together, weave a unified sound with compelling lyrics and inventive melodies. Fifteen seconds into his forthcoming 2nd album, “Good to be Here,” Phillip-Michael sings “Toes pointed toward the road / Hard times picking at my bones” outlining the odds he’s facing before barreling into an anthemic chorus; “I couldn’t walk away if I tried / I’m gonna light up the Sky.” It reads like a mission statement, setting the tone for the album. When Phillip-Michael Scales moved to Chicago he immediately began cutting his teeth as a musician. In 2018 he played 308 gigs. Phillip-Michael swears that “Chicago taught me how to hustle” which came in handy when he moved to Nashville and quickly found himself in rotation on the number one AAA radio station, Lightning 100. From there he released his debut album “Sinner-Songwriter,” toured Europe, had a song on national radio, played the Ellen Degeneres show, and opened national tours for Keb’ Mo’ and Caravan Palace. Eventually, he caught the attention of Grammy-nominated producer, Dan Knobler (Lake Street Dive, Allison Russell, and Bahamas) who would team up with Scales on his latest Album, “Good to Be Here” (out April 25th). Without a record label, strong financial backing, or a viral hit; commercial success as an artist is a mountain that very few people scale. Staying true to yourself and continuing to climb when plagued by false starts, setbacks, and crippling doubt is a much longer and lonelier path. Being self-managed for the majority of his career, he’s no stranger to 8-hour drives behind tour busses, prepping for shows in closets or stairwells, getting off big stages to immediately sell his own merch, or pouring through books to learn more about the business. Perhaps that’s the reason his record feels like a modern take on Stax-era Soul where you could hear the blood, sweat, and tears of blue-collar artists singing their way to stardom. Scales also catalogs the mental aspects of the journey asking the kind of questions that keep you up at night. “Is this truly what you want? How are you getting in your own way? Is it really worth the finite time away from the people you love?” Make no mistake, throughout the album, there is an undercurrent of hope and a sense that Scales is truly enjoying himself whether he’s finding love in “Can’t Get Enough” or getting his swagger back in “Be My Own Man.”  “Good to Be Here” is the narration of a person building their dream brick by brick and everything that comes with it. “I wouldn’t say that I’ve ‘arrived’ but when you’ve learned everything the hard way, you get more confident and enjoy the ride because you know that you got yourself here and it’s good to be here!”  *Phillip-Michael grew up with his Aunt’s friend, B.B. The New Mastersounds have been delighting audiences with their infectious brand of funky soul-jazz since they formed in Leeds, England in 1999. For the first five years of the band’s career they were regulars at the Jazz Café in London, before they began to turn heads on the funk scene in the US, where guitarist/producer/bandleader Eddie Roberts now lives. For over a decade they have been a staple act of the late-night scene during New Orleans’ annual Jazz Fest. Always happy to hit the studio between tours, this veteran band now boasts a rich recorded catalogue that includes fifteen original studio albums, four live albums, several compilations, and a remix album. Though they have collaborated over the years with such musical luminaries as Maceo Parker, Fred Wesley, Corinne Bailey Rae, Art Neville, Bernard Purdie and Lou Donaldson, they are at their best on stage as a tightly-packed quartet – bass, drums, guitar and keyboards - firing off scorching grooves and feeding on the energy of the dancers in the front row.

Pulsing with the energy of their hometown New York City, ‘If There’s a Heaven’ (2024) is the debut album from indie band Melt. Melt is simultaneously at their most airtight and freewheeling–evoking the raw, communal spirit of Fleetwood Mac as much as the modern, danceable hooks of MUNA. Recorded live to tape with producer Sam Evian (Big Thief), the eleven tracks span feel-good, existential pop (“Plant the Garden”), classic love ballads (“Your Name”) and lush, soulful rockers (“Heaven”). Melt’s debut is a joyous, timeless soundtrack for growing up and finding community. Melt formed in 2017 and saw early success with their first single “Sour Candy.” Quickly spreading out across the Northeast for college, the band reunited to tour over weekends and cut their teeth playing everywhere they could, from packed basements to sold-out theaters across the country. Called “one groovy super-organism” by NPR, the band’s intuitive connection as players and unique combination of sounds has found them supporting a wide array of artists such as Grouplove, Lawrence, and Greensky Bluegrass.
