LESLIE MENDELSON
If You Can’t Say Anything Nice... “ The anger and depression got to me, and I couldn ’ t hold it in anymore. So, I got into a room with my demons and we just hit record, ” shares indie singer - songwriter Leslie Mendelson. The resulting album, playfully titled, ‘ If You Can't Say Anything Nice ... , ’ is viscerally themed, imaginatively arranged, cinematically dynamic and textured, oozing raw elegance. “ I deal with depression and anxiety, and I ’ ve never really sang about it before. It also felt lik e what was going on with society was also affecting me, in terms of gun violence, the opioid crisis, and the all hatred in the news and media. It felt like it was time to speak out, ” Leslie explains. Leslie has released two prior albums, including her Gr ammy Award - nominated debut, ‘Swan Feathers,’ one EP, and three singles. Her first album exhibited a production sheen she opted to strip away on her sophomore album, ‘ Love & Murder . ’ Her latest, ‘ If You Can't Say Anything Nice ... , ’ is a gutsy album that split s the difference between her previous albums in terms of production, but also features some garage - rock bluster. “ The best time to make a rock n ’ roll record is when you ’ re broke and pissed off, ” she says, with a good - natured laugh. For the album, Leslie w orked with longtime co - writer and guitarist Steve McEwan who co - produced the album alongside bassist and engineer Lorenzo Wolff. Previously to releasing ‘ If You Can't Say Anything Nice ... , ’ Leslie and Steve collaborated with Jackson Browne on a stirring c omposition that was featured in the acclaimed documentary film, ‘ 5B, ’ about the San Francisco General Hospital AIDS ward during the early '80s directed by Paul Haggis and Dan Krauss. Leslie and Jackson also performed together at the Beacon Theater in NYC i n June 2019, while she joined him throughout his West Coast tour to perform the song in August 2019. In addition, Leslie had the distinct honor of opening for The Who twice at Madison Square Garden in May and September 2019. The pairing of sparseness an d potency that informs ‘ If You Can't Say Anything Nice ... ’ was inspired by John Lennon ’s ‘ Plastic Ono Band ’ album. Besides being emotive and topical of the day, Leslie favored its no - frills piano, bass, drums, and guitar approach. ‘ If You Can't Say Anything Nice ... ’ opens with the urgent love song, “ Lay It On Me. ” The track unfolds theatrically with dramatic dynamic shifts, and the lyrics are emotive and direct with such lines as: “I just want to ease your pain/Beat the hammer through these walls/Anything that I can say/To make your fears feel so small/So lay it all on me.” The dangers of self - medication in the age of readily available options pervade the intimately reflective ballad, “ Medication. ” On the title track, Leslie channels her inner Nick Cave, swagg ering and snarling through filthy - but - catchy blues - rock. The self - explanatory “ Would You Give Up Your Gun ” is a stirring, elegantly emotive political track. Leslie clarifies: “ That song is not meant to be preachy. We have loose gun laws and there have bee n so many massacres in the last 10 years. I am posing the question to those who feel safe by hanging onto their right to bear arms — would you give up your gun to save lives? ” Leslie opens “ I Need Something To Care About ” with the lines: “I can ’ t feel a thing for anything/Thinking that my minds desensitized.” The song is a plea to pull oneself from a numbing depression. Here, the contrast of airy piano melodic figures, treated vocals, and delicate ambient textures create a swirl of emotions within the mus ic. “ We all want a purpose, and when we feel we have nothing to say, it ’ s scary, and you fight that by searching, ” Leslie reveals. Leslie has boldly bared many private fears on If You Can't Say Anything Nice ... , and expressing her inner landscape has been scary but also healing . “ When you share something this vulnerable you do get some comfort because it resonates with people, ” she acknowledges. “ You realize you ’ re not alone. ”

Inda Eaton is a globe-trotting singer-songwriter-performer-bandleader now based in East Hampton, NY. Her unique sound has found favor with fans of rock, country, and acoustic music all over the world since she started touring behind her first album “Thin Fine Line” in 1996. Inda lives for these authentic adventures as a working musician and she thrives on the road with local food and culture. An accomplished singer-songwriter, Inda has a knack for creating crafty hooks, meaningful lyrics and killer harmonies that have won her a loyal fan base worldwide. She is both a skilled soloist and band leader, whose performances of both original material and classic cover songs adapt to mellow acoustic, good ol’ country western, or hard core rock & roll audiences. Her live shows have made her a staple for four years running at Rock & Roll Marathons™ around the country and festivals like the Tempe Music Fest and Gateway’s™ Saturday in the Park. Inda and her grassroots band have toured extensively over the years, opening for names like John Hiatt, Blues Traveler, Earl Scruggs, Hootie and the Blowfish, LeAnn Rimes, Shemekia Copeland, and Molly Hatchet. This girl-with-a-guitar story began in Arizona as a Momma-wants-her-baby-to-be-a-classical-pianist story. But, like her notoriously untamed mane, Inda would not be relegated to refinement for long. The gritty relationship between her looks, her lungs, her lyrics and guitar licks was sealed the minute a six-string first fell into her hands. As a student at Boston University, playing the coffeehouses and college stairwells proved difficult with a piano so the broadcast journalism major permanently opted for her more portable guitar. The troubadour then traveled the globe, strumming everywhere from Latin America to the Australian outback, to the yodeling knolls of Germany where she served the U.S. military – drinks, that is. With four years’ worth of ballads from behind a Bavarian bar, Inda returned stateside to pour herself into a music career, but not before contracting cerebral malaria on a trek through Africa. Though friends joke that her near-death detour made her slightly narcoleptic, it fully awakened her to her path in music. While recuperating in Wyoming, Inda met bluesman Spencer Bohren, producer of her debut CD, thin fine line. The album and her first solo tour won a warm welcome from the folk world and consumers. Two years later, she took her earnings and headed to New Orleans to record her second vocal album, Never Too Late to Fly,co-produced with Bohren. The LP, which features members of the Subdudes and the Radiators, found a home on CMJ and alternative charts. Hits like “Hey Lie” and “Woman in Me,” garnered critical acclaim in both the folk and rock world and earned an AFIM nomination for Best Independent Album of 1998. The album prompted 5 tours, including 2 with MWR for the US military communities and schools overseas. Stateside shows grew to support the CAPP Fund, Toys for Tots, Habitat for Humanity and Rosie’s House. In 2000, Inda and her band landed in Phoenix, Arizona, to record her fourth album, Why the Desert. Desert also received critical industry acclaim in publications such as Billboard and Relix and aligned her with tours in support of American Society of Young Musicians and VH1’s Save the Music Program. In 2004, Inda released Indeep, a five-song EP and in 2005 she released Inda Live from Bear Trap, both available on www.indaeaton.com. Go West is her 8th independently produced album. She is currently working on the next album project. Join her mailing list to keep up with the creative process and find out more about the upcoming release.

Nancy Atlas and her band of Journeymen have been dominating the East End Music scene or Long Island for quite some time. Known for her raw, live performances and stellar songwriting Nancy and her band, The Nancy Atlas Project, have opened for almost everyone under the sun. To name a few: Elvis Costello, Lucinda Williams, Toots and the Maytals, Jimmy Buffett, Crosby, Stills and Nash… the list goes on and on. The reason is simple. When people want a solid act to open their show and get the crowd warmed up, they call Nancy and her boys because they know they will deliver. Every time. Nancy grew up with gypsy blood in Commack, NY. Eager to get the buck out of dodge she spent her entire college years abroad at both Cambridge University in England and Richmond College in London and Florence. She majored in art history, fine art, drinking lots of wine and talking shit. There was a serious recession going on the year she graduated college so instead of becoming a mad advertising executive she walked down to Portabello Road, London, bought a guitar for 60 quid and never looked back. It was pouring buckets of English rain that day so they gave her a black plastic bag to cover her guitar as it didn’t come with a case. Nothing, it is said, can stop true desire. Nancy now lives in Montauk, New York with her husband Thomas and her two sons, Cash and Levon, and her daughter Tallulah. When she is not writing a song or on stage rocking out, she can be found clamming with her kids, surfing with her kids, walking with her kids, reading with her kids or cartooning for her kids. On rainy days she lazily traces tour maps of Europe with her right hand while sipping her beloved PG Tibs English Tea and smiling out into the East End Mist.

In each song she creates, Nicole Atkins reveals her incredible power to transport listener s to a much more charmed time and space . On her new album Italian Ice , the New Jersey - bred singer/songwriter conjures the romance and danger and wild magic of a place especially close to her heart: the Jersey Shore in all its scrappy beauty . Inspired by the boardwalk’s many curiosities — the crumbling Victorian mansions, the lurid and legendary funhouse, the Asbury Park rock - and - roll scene she played a key par t in reviving — Atkins ultimately transforms her neverending fascination into a wonderland of her own making. “When you’re on the boardwalk there’s a feeling that anything can happen , and that’s the feeling I tried to create with this record,” Atkins says. “I wanted to give people something they can put on and buy into a fantasy that gets them excited about what might happen in their own lives.” For help in capturing the shore’s kinetic spirit , Atkins assembled a studio ba nd whose lineup feels almost mythical . Recorded at the iconic Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Alabama, Italian Ice finds the Nashville - based artist joined by Spooner Oldham and David Hood ( both members of The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section , who played on classic records from the likes of Aretha Franklin and Etta James ) , Binky Griptite of The Dap Kings , Jim Sclavunos and Dave Sherman of T he Bad Seeds , and drummer McKenzie Smith ( St. Vincent, Midlake) . With special guests including Spoon frontman Britt Daniel, Seth Avett of The Avett Brothers , Erin Rae , and John Paul White , the album is a testament to Atkins’s uncommon talent for uniting musicians of radically different sensibilities. “I just invited all my best musical friends to be there with me, and then we roped in Spooner and David too ,” says Atkins , who connected with the two musicians after performing at Oldham’s birthday bash . “Musically, it doesn’t make any sense . But I’m a superfan of all of them, and we ended up with the weirdest, craziest band ever. It just became this awesome misfit party.” Co - p roduced by Atkins and Ben Tanner of Alabama Shakes, Italian Ice makes brilliant use of its A - list personnel, unfolding in a kaleidoscopic sound that Atkins likens to “an acid trip through my record collection.” At turns as opulent as symphonic pop and gritty as garage punk, the album wanders into shades of psych - rock and honky - tonk and girl - group melodrama , endlessly spotlighting the tightl y honed musicianship and unbridled originality at heart of Atkins’s artistry. “I didn’t really censor myself much,” she points out. “Everything that felt good to say or hear or feel coming back off the speakers, I just went for it.” Right from its very first seconds , Italian Ice hints at a deeper purpose behind that feel - good ethos. With its soulful harmonies and soaring string lines , the album - opening “ AM Gold ” speaks truth on the horrors of global warming and the corrosive effects o f social media (sample lyric: “ We’re stranded in the garbage of Eden/ We’re starvin’ what we should’ve been feedin’”), yet simultaneously makes a case for music as a potent antidote to despair . “The world can be in so much chaos, like it is today, but whenever I go home and get in my parents’ car and turn on the radio to some Bobby Vinton or Frankie Valli song, everything feels okay,” says Atkins. “ For a few minutes you’re just drifting away on this dreamy sound that makes you feel so warm and held and comforted.” From there, Italian Ice presents a pair of back - to - back tracks that channel Atkins’s untamed imagination into moments of sonic transcendence. Co - written with My Morning Jacket’s Carl Broemel , “Mind Eraser” matches its silver y textures and ethereal guitar work with flashes of surreal ist poetry lifted straight from her hyperactive dream life. Meanwhile, “ Domino ” finds Atkins pushing genre boundaries to glorious effect , working with songwriter/producer Dex Green to carve out a groove - heavy pop gem . “We were talking about French electro and I told Dex how I wished could have a song that sounds like that,” Atkins recalls . “He sent me over a beat he constructed and we ended up coming up with something almost like a Prince song or ‘Miss You’ from the Stones — that same kind of strut.” And in her smoothly delivered lyrics to “Domino , ” Atkins serves up something of a mission statement for living fully in troubled times : “ I’m not gonna play/Safe and sound/ When the world comes tumblin’, tumblin’ down .” Although Atkins embodies a bold self - possession for much of Italian Ice , the album also has its share of tender hearted offerings , such as the sweetly slow - burning “Forever” — a song sparked from an impromptu meeting with Kelvin Holly ( longt ime guitarist for Little Richard). “We were outside smoking a cigarette at Spooner Oldham’s birthday party and just hit it off,” says Atkins. “He asked how I met my husband , and I told him how he’d been my tour manager and then said some thing like, ‘I smelled him and he smelled like forever.’ And Kelvin told me, ‘Well, that’s a song right there.’” Another candid expression of unconditional love, “Captain” features guest vocals from Daniel, emerging as a beautifully lilting ballad duet . “Britt came down to the studio and we sat on the back porch and worked out the parts, then just went in sang it live,” says Atkins, who co - wrote “Captain” with Broemel . “It’s about how a lot of times in my life, I’ve ne eded people to take care of me, but n ow I’ve become much stronger. The song is me saying to my husband: ‘I got this. Just rest for a little bit and let me take care of you.’” Elsewhere on Italian Ice , Atkins showcases her gifts as a storyteller, like on the fantastically rambling road - warrio r confessional “ Never Goin’ Home Agai n ” ( a track written with Sclavunos and Daniel). “We’ve got so many crazy tour stories, so we decided to string them all together into one song that everyone can dance to and laugh about,” says Atkins. Wh ile those stories include “seeing aliens and blowing up a minivan and waking up in somebody’s daughter’s bed,” as Atkins puts it, one of the most jarring tales involves the time she stumbled into a sinkhole in a Knoxville parking lot. “I woke up at the bot tom and my old keyboard player had to jump in and lift me out, and it really flipped my perspective on a lot of shit,” she says. Perhaps most profoundly , the incident inspired Atkins to focus on filling her life with the people and experiences that bring h er the most joy — a turning point that led directly to the abundance of collaborations on Italian Ice . An album entirely unrestrained in feeling, Italian Ice closes out with one of its most gut - punching tracks: “In the Splinters,” a n epically defiant finale co - penned with Hamilton Leithauser . “When Hurricane Sandy happened, a lot of our area got destroyed ,” says Atkins of the song’s orig ins. “It was really traumatizing , but the upshot was how everybody came together afterward . I think as long as you’re alive and with the people you love, it really doesn’t matter what you have.” Describing her time at Muscle Shoals as “like summer camp, but in the winter,” Atkins looks back on the recording process with deep fondness for the camaraderie she helped create amo ng so many disparate musicians. During that time, the band stayed together in a nearby lakehouse, cooked breakfast for each other every morning, and spent their nights playing dice in a local bar. “This record taught me that making music for music’s sake and seeing what happens is where the good shit comes from,” she says. “I feel like I’ve written some of my best stuff just feeling happy and confident and enjoying the company of who I’m playing with .” For Atkins, that shift in app roach marks a full - circle moment in her trajectory as an artist. “My whole life , music was the only thing I ever really cared about,” she says. “When I was a kid I couldn’t get into sports, couldn’t get into school, but music was something I always wanted to know everything about. I never gave up on it, even when I felt like it was kind of failing me.” And in reflecting on the making of Italian Ice , Atkins returns to her eternal kinship with the Jersey Shore. “ There’s this great quote about Asbury Park that I feel very connected to,” she says. “It’s something about how music was the thi ng that kept Asbury Park alive — even when the whole town was burn ed out and everyone moved away , music was the heartbeat that kept it going. I was thinking about that around th e time I was making this record and I thought, ‘That’s just like my life.’
