American music icon and New Orleans legend Mac "DR. JOHN" Rebennack moved from New Orleans to Amagansett in the 1990s. He also became a regular performer at the Talkhouse. This special evening celebrating the musical life of DR JOHN will be hosted by the east end's New Orleans influenced band THE HOODOO LOUNGERS and will include performances by New Orleans pianist BILL MALCHOW and others. Some rare footage of the good Dr. in his prime will kick things off on this ALL DR. JOHN evening.

Roots pianist and vocalist Bill Malchow divides his time between the Big Apple and the Big Easy—which sounds about right, since his percolating, second-line style bubbles and boils with Fats Waller-style Harlem stride and the steaming New Orleans sounds of Dr. John, James Booker, Allen Toussaint, and Professor Longhair.

The HooDoo Loungers are a nine piece band performing music inspired by the rhythms, sounds, history and spirit of New Orleans. The band's sound encompasses traditional New Orleans Jazz, Brass Band, Gospel, classic R&B and funk - a blend of original music and re-arranged New Orleans classics. They perform a high energy show never ceases to engage the entire audience. Their second album of original music HEAD & HEART & HIPS released in late 2018 has won the BEST CD OF THE YEAR award from the L.I. BLUES SOCIETY and was nominated by the national BLUES FOUNDATION as one of the top CD's of the year..

After a week-long deliberation, we have decided that it is in the community's best interest that the Talkhouse be closed for now until it is safe for us to open. We are in uncharted waters and we will be monitoring the spread, and hopefully the containment, of the virus. This is a tough decision for us as we know we provide an outlet for people to have a good time. We feel that everyone's safety and health is what we should focus on until we have a better grasp of the situation. During the next two weeks we will be installing hand sanitizer's throughout the bar. We also will be instituting sanitizing protocols when we do open. To all our patrons, musicians, and everyone else we ask that you take this situation seriously and stay safe and healthy. When we do open please stay home if you suspect that you may be ill. We will update you if anything changes. Again, please stay safe.
