| The best and brightest in the acoustic music world move the music forward with an awareness of what came before them; that is certainly true of Caroline Doctorow, who pays homage to her 60s' folk music roots while pushing way beyond those limited boundaries...Lee Zimmerman of No Depression says "with a rustic back porch stance that finds her akin to Emmylou Harris, Nanci Griffith, Judy Collins and Lucinda Williams, she has all the makings of an understated star." Doctorow's career boasts nine folk/Americana albums and a reputation for delivering a song with a velveteen voice. She has always surrounded herself with a stunning line-up of musical talent for live shows and on her records. John Sebastian, Nanci Griffith, Pete Kennedy, Eric Weissberg, Mike Auldridge, Happy Traum, Annie Golden, Lisa Germano, Barbara Lamb, Grayson Hugh and Cindy Cashdollar have all have appeared on her records. Her touring band is no exception and it's featured members include the area's finest; Andrew Carillo ( Joan Osborne) Gary Oleyar (Loggins and Messina) and Max Johnson. She is part of this spring's long awaited release "Trouble in the Fields -A Tribute to Nanci Griffith" featuring Sara Hickman, Tom Russell, Alice Despard, Amy Rigby, Jerry Jeff Walker, The Kennedys, Tracy Grammer , Jim Henry, Edwina Hayes, John Stewart, Julie Gold, Red Molly, Carolyn Hester, Stacey Earle and Mark Stu. (Paradiddle Records). Caroline and her current touring band The Steamrollers have generated a tremendous buzz around her home base of Eastern Long Island and the surrounding tri- state area. Recently her touring schedule was expanded to include appearances in the Northeast at several legendary venues including The Guthrie Center, The Narrows Center for the Arts ( opening for the Subdudes), New Bedford Summerfest, The Katharine Hepburn Theater (with Grayson Hugh), and further south to venues in Nashville, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and again in Knoxville for her third appearance on the famed Blue Plate Special live radio broadcast on WDVX Knoxville TN. Her voice can be heard on the soundtrack of the feature film Daniel directed by Sidney Lumet and on the soundtrack of the PBS series Freedom, The History of Us narrated by Katie Couric singing "This Little Light of Mine." The Long Island History Journal featured her folk song "Big Duck Ramble" in a recent volume. Ms. Doctorow is host of the monthly WPKN folk radio show Songtrails. She has opened for The Band, Alison Krauss, Tim O'Brien, Richie Havens, The Subdudes, and Tom Paxton, to name a few. She is the daughter of world renowned author E.L. Doctorow. |
