The fall of 2009, brings you a beautifully crafted new collection of songs from the Renaissance Woman, NYC based, Taylor Barton. This is her seventh project featuring well-polished songs produced by Pink Floyd’s Keyboardist, Jon Carin and Taylor Barton; joined by her husband GE Smith, SNL, Dylan and veteran musicians, Tony Shanahan, ( Patty Smith) Robin Gould, Alex Alexander (Dido) and the newly emerging songstress on background vocals, GiGi Fouquet ( Barton produced her EP, Tiny Heaven, with GE ). This is a richly, textured, picturesque collection.
The incarnation of “Spiritual Gangster”: “I was sitting outside the Rubin Museum, here in NYC, … I couldn’t get into a sold-out “brainwaves seminar”… I got to thinking that anything of “spirit” was stellar -- So, I set off to write a bunch of songs about things that either had fed my spirit or had stolen it
Taylor Barton writes from the trenches of the self-examined life; motherhood, sobriety, visionquest, rock wife-dom, grief, longing, beauty, meaning. With soul mate G.E. Smith as her sideman, she creates aching American classics on "Spiritual Gangster". -Paula Cole
